"Alec and I met when we were at university some 6 years ago. I was part of the dance team, and I injured my ankle in practice one day. A dance friend of mine said they had a friend with a car who might be able to take me to the hospital, and it turned out to be AleC! (Very knight in shining armor-esque!)"
Little did anyone know that Alec and Amanda would later begin dating, and he would be getting down on one knee three years later... sounds like fate to me! Here's how he popped the question:
"Alec pretended that we were going to Manchester for my birthday. He faked a confirmation email, taking out the information about Portugal and putting in the details for a random (horrible!) hotel in Manchester. Thursday was my birthday and I had taken off work to go to 'Manchester'.
The night before we were due to go, Alec spilled the beans (after I had questioned why I needed a bikini and flip flops when Manchester was forecasted to be 4 degrees!) that we were going somewhere in Europe. We woke up the next morning and drove to the airport (still no idea where I was flying to)), and he finally told me we were going to Portugal at the check in. So, I spent my breakfast at the airport researching the area quickly before I whizzed off on the plane.
We landed in Portugal and took a rental car to the hotel. He'd booked us a beautiful apartment at the Hilton, (complete with complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on arrival!!). It was gorgeous. We had a couple of fun days exploring the algarve, which is just gorgeous, and on the second to last day he had planned a tour of the best beaches along the coastline. So, we drove off to the most gorgeous little gem of a beach I have ever seen. The beach was hidden away, and you had to walk down a lot of wooden steps to reach it. We messed around on the beach for a while and as we were walking back up the steps to the car, Alec said that he wanted to get a picture of us looking out onto the gorgeous landscape. So, he put his camera on one of the wooden steps and lined it up to take a 'test shot.' (I'm completely oblivious at this point!). He said it was a good picture, but maybe I should stand up for the second one instead of sitting. Little to my knowledge Alec had set the camera to video mode this time (so the whole thing was filmed!). He walked down to where I was standing with the ring box hidden behind him, and we posed for this (pretend!)picture. When I asked if the picture had been taken he gets down on one knee and proposes! It was unbelievable and a complete surprise."
Perfection, right? Congrats Amanda + Alec! May your future together be full of blisses and kisses!
P.S. - the ring is a stunner! A two carat round brilliant cut diamond in a six carat Tiffany style setting. He bought it from a small boutique company called Kinetique based in Cornwall, England. Beautiful, classic, and timeless; see for yourself!
